Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the web page of St George College. We hope you find the site useful and interesting and if you are a parent with school age children we hope that this site helps you to make a more informed decision about the kind of education that you will offer to your children.
St George College was established in 1983 and is the first Orthodox College in South Australia. The College operates under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and is the direct responsibility of the Greek Orthodox Community and Parish of St George Thebarton and Western Suburbs Inc.
St George College offers educational programs that are based on the values, beliefs and practices of the Orthodox faith within a four sub-schools structure which is designed to accommodate the changing needs of students as their learning journey unfolds. Our “Early Years” sub-school encompasses learners from Pre-entry (3 ½ years old) to Year 2 and focuses on igniting the natural genius of students. Students in Years 3 to 5 constitute our “Primary Years” sub-school with a focus on extending, elaborating, reconceptualising and reflecting upon their frameworks of knowledge and values. Our “Middle Years” sub-school accommodates for students in Years 6 to 9 and all of their needs as learners who are experiencing adolescence and the accompanying emotional and physical changes. Students in Years 10-12 constitute our “Senior Years” sub-school and have access to a diversity of subjects offered by highly effective teachers who aim to ensure that students successfully fulfill their post-secondary schooling aspirations.
St George College offers its students modern, fully air-conditioned facilities including three “Information Technology Centres”, Two “Libraries”, a state-of-the-art “Performing Arts & Sports Centre” three “Art Centres”, a newly refurbished “Science Laboratory”, a brand new “Music Suite” and larger than normal classrooms. Under the “Adelaide Airport Noise Insulation Program” (ANNIP) the Commonwealth Government spend some $5 million dollars to insulate the College’s Senior Campus against aircraft noise. As a result the College provides an enhanced and aesthetically more pleasing learning environment fully insulated against noise.
Our deliberate policy on numerically small classes provide our students with improved opportunities for a more effective teaching and learning process through a more intense and sustained one-to-one interaction with teachers.
Since the introduction of our Year 12 classes in 2001 our results at SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 levels have been very impressive. An extremely high proportion of our Year 12 students has gained entrance into tertiary study courses of their choice.
At St George College we recognize that parents entrust us with their most precious possession, their children. Our promise is that we will do our best to respond to this responsibility through an education that is underpinned by Orthodox values as well as values based on the family unit as the cornerstone to a happy, productive and fulfilling life.
Please do not hesitate to contact the College for any further information or clarification or if you would like to make an appointment to discuss our programs further or to see our facilities.
